Chesterfield recorded back to back wins in the first two games of the National League season after sweeping aside Aldershot Town 3-0 at the Proact Stadium.
The home side started brightly and could've taken the lead in the ninth minute but Gozie Ugwu saw his half-volley on the turn smack against the post.
However, a minute later, the Spireites took the lead when Curtis Weston's backheel found Charlie Carter who saw his low shot go past Aldershot 'keeper Jake Cole.
It wasn't all plain sailing for Martin Allen's team as the Shots almost found themselves on level terms, but Shamir Fenelon couldn't beat Shwan Jalal.
There was an injury worry for the hosts on the half-hour mark when Lewis Kinsella went in strongly on Drew Talbot, which resulted in a yellow card for Kinsella.
After a couple minutes of treatment, the right back was ready to be replaced by Bradley Barry, but the long-serving player soldiered on.
Ugwu was once more inches away from grabbing his first competitive Spireites goal but the striker couldn't latch onto Zavon Hines' teasing low cross.
In the 40th minute, Carter found the back of the net once more to put Chesterfield 2-0 up with his rocket of a shot from just outside the box after a mazy run in the opponents' half.
As the second half started, Matt McClure could've found a way for Gary Waddock's side to get back into the game; the striker saw his shot go just wide of the Blues goal though.
The second 45 minutes was slightly more subdued but Chesterfield still remained the better team.
Jerome Binnom-Williams almost extended the lead but his effort just floated over the bar.
The third goal would arrive though as Talbot was taken down by Kinsella in the box.
Marc Antoine-Fortune took the penalty and confidently notched his first goal for the Spireites to make it 3-0.
That would be it for the goals but Carter was unlucky not to get a hat-trick when his shot hit the post after a short corner routine.
This leaves Chesterfield top of the National League after two games, with four goals and two clean sheets.
Post-match verdict: so far, so good
Chesterfield looked organised and it was refreshing to see a team so clinical and good in possession.
Charlie Carter stole the show with his brace and was a deserving man of the match.
In the post-match press conference, Martin Allen was massively pleased with the performance but he said his side can do much better and on that viewing, that should send shivers down the spines of all National League sides.
