90 MINUTES AWAY FROM SILVERWARE FOR CHESTERFIELD LADIES

Chesterfield Ladies take on Derby County Women U20 on Sunday afternoon in the final of the Derbyshire Women’s County Cup at Grange Park.

This is the first time ever that Chesterfield Ladies have reached the final of this competition and marks the last opportunity of the 2022/23 season for the Blues to win some silverware.

Mike Noon’s side enter this cup final without a win in their last four games. This has seen the Derbyshire outfit drop to third position in the East Midlands Women’s Premier Division with two matches remaining of this season’s league campaign.

The Opposition

Derby County Women U20 have enjoyed a phenomenal 2022/23 campaign. Derby’s academy team play in the Women’s National League Reserve Midland Division and are in the driving seat to win the league title. Remarkably, after playing 17 league games so far this season, Derby County Women U20 have still not lost a game yet. They’ve won 15 of those league games which sees them at the top of the table and favourites to win the title race ahead of West Bromwich Albion Women U20 and local rivals Nottingham Forest Women U20.

Derby’s academy team have won their last three matches in a row. In their most recent game, they thrashed Wolverhampton Wanderers Women U20 6-1 away from home last weekend.

Derby County Women U20 have an excellent history in this competition. They’ve won the Derbyshire Women’s County Cup eight times.

The academy side play their home games at Moor Farm Training Centre in Derby. Their manager is Dan Dobrzycki.

Previous Meeting

These two sides last played each other in November 2019 in the quarter-finals of the 2019/20 Derbyshire Women’s County Cup.

Chesterfield won a dramatic cup tie 4-3 on penalties following a 2-2 draw away from home to qualify for the semi-finals.
