REPORT: Belper Town end August unbeaten after third victory of the season

Belper Town maintained their unbeaten start to the season after a 2-0 home win against Glossop North End.


Grant Black made one change to the starting 11 of Belper Town from the Bank Holiday game against Ilkeston. Cameron Clark came in for the suspended Steve Ridley.


Chances came for Belper Town in the first half but Glossop North End keeper Dale Latham made fantastic saves to keep the home side at bay and keep the score at 0-0 going into half time.


At the beginning of the second half, the away side applied early pressure onto Belper by having the first shot of the second half which went wide of the right hand side of Ryan Musselwhite’s goal.


Three minutes later Belper had the chance to go 1-0 up but Craig Nelthorpe’s header went wide from Nathan Curtis’s cross.


Belper won a free kick on the right hand side just outside the penalty area, Nelthopre stepped up and took the free kick for Belper. Derry Robson was left unmarked in the area and headed the ball home into the back of the net to give the hosts the lead.


It was end to end action from both sides after the opening goal. Kyle Bryant and Steve McDonnell had chances to make it 2-0 for Belper but both shots went wide of the goal.


On the 79th minute Belper doubled their lead. Phil Watt beat his defender to the ball before playing it back to Riece Bertram. The midfielder fired it low to the right hand side of the Glossop goalkeeper to wrap the game up.


Glossop had a chance to pull one back from a free kick, but the ball hit the right hand side post and went out for a goal kick.


Belper gained all 3 points and finished August unbeaten, Belper are back in action on Tuesday night in the FA cup replay against Sporting Khalsa.


Belper Town: Musselwhite, Bryant, Clark, Bertram, South (C), Watt, Robson, Nelthorpe (Gordon 78), Peterson, Milner (McDonnell 66, Curtis (Dawes 86).
