REPORT: Belper Town through to the next round of the FA Cup


Belper Town progress to the next round of the FA Cup after winning 3-1 against Sporting Khalsa after extra time in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round replay.


Belper Town manager, Grant Black, started with the same starting eleven who played in the first tie against Sporting Khalsa.


After an evenly matched first period, Sporting Khalsa took the lead in the 25th minute after a fantastic cross on the left hand side was headed into the back of the goal by Dan Westwood, who was left unmarked in the penalty area.


Belper won a free kick on the right hand side in the 53rd minute, the free kick was crossed in by Craig Nelthorpe. Reece Bertram lost his marker to head home the equaliser into the back of the net to make it 1-1.


After an evenly matched second period, the two sides couldn't be separated and the tie went into extra time with the score at 1-1.


Six minutes into the 2nd half of extra time, Belper Town won a corner on the left hand side which was crossed in by Danny Gordon. The corner landed to Derry Robson on the right hand side of the penalty area. Robson ran into the penalty area played a ball in the area which was cleared and the ball came to Nathan Curtis who scored a peach of a volley to put Belper 2-1 up.


With three minutes left of the 2nd half of extra time, Josh Waldram won the ball back on the right hand side. He played the ball into Curtis and the forward fired the ball into an empty net and to send the Nailers through to the next round of the FA Cup.


They will now face Alvechurch FC in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round this Saturday at the Raygar Stadium.
