Late winner by Lewis Salmon sealed all 3 points for Alfreton on Boxing Day against Buxton.

After an early freekick attempt from Ex Buck Nathan Newall Buxton found themselves having a lot of chances in the opening 25 minions.

Eoin McKeown lined the ball up through the middle for Tommy Elliott who was taken down in the box however the referee waved away shouts for a penalty.

A headed attempt from Max Hunt went just over the bar before McKeown was denied from close range by George Willis in goal.

McKeown however was involved in the opening goal in the 27th minute after his electric pace down the left hand side beat his man and got the cross to the middle to find Elliott to give The Bucks the lead.

Kennedy Digie headed the ball into the hands of Max Dearnley after the ball came into him from a freekick.

Jordan Thewlis thought he had got the equaliser for The reds in the 35th minute but the referee had blown for a foul just before his shot hit the back of the net.

Thewlis however didn’t have to wait long until he did add to his goal tally after Brown pushed an Alfreton player in the box and the referee awarded a penalty. Thewlis stepped up and dispatched it to make it 1-1 at the break.

Dylan Motley-Henry was very close to scoring early in the second half but Willis was quick off of his line to deny the winger.

Dwayne Wiley who scored in the corresponding fixture last year hit a half volley that went into the hands of Dearnley.

Sam Minihan created a number of chances down the right hand side forcing the Alfreton defence to clear away and stay strong at the back.

Wiley almost scored from a free header after a corner however it went just wide.

But Alfreton did get the winner with 10 minutes from time. Despite a save from Dearnley the ball fell to the Alfreton attacker and then Salmon smashed it in to seal all 3 points.
