Diego De Girolamo’s last minute penalty means that Buxton face Kettering again in a replay at the Silverlands Stadium.
The home side started brightly as Connor Barratt beat his man crossed the ball in and it found Callum Powell who fluffed his shot towards goal.
Buxton’s first chance of the game came as Jamie Ward worked it down the left hand side and got a cross in that was just over hit and went out for a goal kick.
It wasn’t long before the National league North side took the lead with former Bucks man Alex Brown unleashing a clean left footed strike in the 20th minute to make it 1-0.
Kettering continued to dominate the game holding up play in the middle of the park and creating chances.
Powell doubled the lead for The Poppies just before half time. Claudio Ofosu drove with pace and dinked the ball into Issac Stones who shot was scuffed but it fell to Powell who smashed the ball into the net to make it 2-0 at the break.
The Second half started the same as the first with Kettering continuing to have the possession of the ball as Luke Ward forced Richardson into an outstretched save to keep Buxton in the game.
Buxton bounced into life after this the ball falling to Diego De Girolamo on the edge of the box in the 61st minute and he fired it past Smith to make it 2-1.
It seemed this goal is what the visitors needed as they had more opportunities from both Tommy Elliott and Nathan Fox firing at goal but just not being able to get past the keeper.
In the 94th minute the comeback was complete as the away fans noise rose as the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty after a Kettering handball.
De Girolamo stepped up and put the penalty in the net for 2-2 and to force a replay back at home on Tuesday night.
