Buxton FC ensure Playoff charge goes to the last game

A almost perfect first half was the difference as Buxton won 3-1 against Brackley.

Joe Ackroyd opened the scoring after 6 minutes leaping into the air to score a header.

Brackley responded well with Glenn Walker crossing the ball into Callum Stead and his shot got blocked by a Buxton defender.

Sam Osborne came close hitting a volley dipping towards goal that went over the bar narrowly.

Then a well worked move that started with a Max Conway Diagonal pass across the pitch came to Diego De Girolamo in the box to force the keeper into parrying the ball before collecting.

A mistake at the back led to De Girolamo latching onto the ball and dinking it over Danny Lewis to add the second of the game.

De Girolamo thought he had his second of the game in the 41st minute with a strike from the edge of the box hitting the top corner of the net however the ref ruled it out for a handball.

Kirby made it 3-0 with a rocketed shot along the floor from long range into the bottom of the corner.

However a Brackley were able to get one back before the break with Captain Glenn Walker’s deflected shot finding the back of the net from close range.

The second half wasn’t quite as exciting as the first with Buxton coming the closes to adding another goal as De Girolamo hit a volley narrowly wide in the 50th minute.

With Brackley putting some pressure on they had 2 pot shots from long range but neither could find the target Sam Smart hitting his high and wide in the 67th minute.

The Bucks were unlucky not to get a goal late on. Lewis was forced into 2 saves the first from Jordan Barnett and the second from De Girolamo who ran through at goal.

Buxton now take the playoff chase to the last day sitting in 7th place.
