Buxton progress through to the semi finals of the Derbyshire Senior Cup after Joe Young saved 2 penalties in the shootout against Derby County’s under 21s.
The fulltime score was 1-1 after Tony Weston’s early goal was cancelled out by Eoin McKeowns penalty to send it to penalties.
Derby took the lead after 20 seconds, after a ball over the top came to Weston and he slotted it past Young in front of the railway end.
McKeown failed to capitalise on a bad mistake at the back from The Rams firing over the bar.
Assitant manager Ryan Qualter, who was making his debut for The Bucks, had a headed effort go narrowly over the bar in the 18th minute.
And The Bucks with all their pressure did find an equaliser in the 21st minute. Adam Livingstone picked up his first goal contribution for the club with a low cross that McKeown was able to get in front of the Derby keeper to tap it into the net.
McKeown tested Jack Thompson one last time before the half was called. Dylan Mottley-Henry’s whipped ball found the head of the forward and Thompson came out to claim.
There wasn’t a huge amount of chances in the opening stages of the second half until the 65th minute where the game sprung into action.
Substitute Jake Wright got in behind and squared the ball across to McKeown but Thompson was quick off his line to deny him his second of the game.
Lewis Wheeldon up the other end then took the ball past Young and couldn’t quite find the target as he hit the crossbar.
With the game level at fulltime it went to penalties with Joe Young being the difference for The Bucks.
Buxton scored all 4 penalties with Jake Hull slotting the winner into the corner to send them through after Young had saved Tyrese Fornahs and Niall McAndrews penalty.
This sets up a match against local rivals Matlock Town next week.
