Buxton take on Boston in the season opener

Buxton are at home as they face Boston United in the season opener.

The Bucks


The Bucks go into this game after a 3-0 loss against Macclesfield on Tuesday night. Despite the best efforts in the second half to try and come back The Bucks couldn’t find a way through.


A big loss early on in the match was captain Josh Granite having to come off injured.


Buxton have made 4 signings before the game Sam Minihan, Xander McBurnie, Zaine Francis-Angol and Jake Hull all putting pen to paper.


Minihan is a right back who joins having played over 150 games for Stockport County. He won the National League with The Hatters in the 2021/22 season.


Xander McBurnie is a midfielder who is the brother of Premier League forward Ollie McBurnie. The 25 year old was at Weymouth last season.


Francis-Angol  can operate as a left back or left winger and has made 26 appearance for Antigua and Bermuda 🇦🇬He spent last season at Oldham Athletic and has lots of experience in the National League.


The last signing was a familiar face as Jake Hull returned for a season long loan. After last season it’s safe to say that Hull was a fan favourite at the club as a tall strong defender keeping the goals out.


Opposition


They play their games at The Jakemans Community stadium which holds 5061.


Boston won the Conference League in the 2001/2002 season and were runners up in the FA Trophy in the 1984/85 season.


The club have the nickname The Pilgrims and the badge has the Pilgrim fathers ship The Mayflower.


Buxton currently  have more Boston first team appearances in their squad than Boston have in theirs. (Credit: Christian James @bostonunitedstats) With Luke Shiels, Jake Wright, Jordan Burrow and Jake Hull bringing the appearances up to 325 compared to the 216 in Bostons squad.


Craig Elliott is also familiar to the opposition having been in charge there from 2017-2022.


One to Watch

Zak Mills is an experienced right back who returned to the club in 2022 having previously being there between 2014 and 2016.  The defender who was born in Peterborough played just over 2 seasons in the football league and won player of the year at Morecambe in 2019.

Last Time Out


Last time on Easter Monday one goal was the difference with Connor Kirby scoring late on to give The Bucks a 1-0 victory.
