In the wake of a disheartening 6-0 defeat just a few days earlier, Buxton faced Brackley with a renewed determination to make amends and picked up a point in a 0-0 draw against a solid playoff chasing Brackley side.
The match kicked off with Jake Wright's early attempt for Buxton, sending an effort wide in the opening stages, setting the tone for a tightly contested encounter.
The 4th minute witnessed a burst of pace from Joe Ackroyd, who delivered a cross to Tommy Elliott. Despite Elliott's header narrowly missing the target, it hinted at Buxton's attacking intent and desire to turn the tide after the recent setback.
Buxton continued to press, and at the 17th minute, Max Hunt rose for a header from Jak McCourt's corner, only to see the ball sail over the bar.
Brackley responded at the 19th minute, mustering their first shot on target as Cosmos Matwasa’s header from a free kick was easily collected by the Buxton goalkeeper.
The 25th minute brought another chance for Brackley, with Lilly firing over the bar after a long throw.
Frustration boiled over in the 36th minute as Elliott and McCourt received bookings for protests after Brackley kicked the ball away, an incident reminiscent of Connor Kirby's earlier caution.
As the second period commenced, Buxton showed promise at the 46th minute, with Elliott's cross from a corner being punched away by the Brackley goalkeeper.
Buxton had a massive chance in the 56th minute when Wright missed a free header the ball came through to Luke Shiels who smashed it against the post.
Morgan Roberts then hit an ambitious 23 yard effort that came into the hands of Joe Young.
The 80th minute brought a crescendo of drama when McCourt made a vital clearance off the line, denying Brackley a late winner.
Buxton now hope to build on this with an away visit to Curzon Ashton next week.
