Matlock Town will be looking to avoid a big cup upset on Tuesday night as they travel to United Counties League Premier Division outfit Quorn.
The Gladiators suffered a disappointing defeat last weekend as they lost 1-0 at Bamber Bridge on the opening day of the NPL Premier Division league campaign. Paul Phillips’s men will be looking to bounce back immediately with a confidence-boosting cup victory before their next league game at home against Stafford Rangers.
The Opposition
Quorn are situated two tiers below Matlock Town. The village of Quorn lies right next to the town of Loughborough. The team play their home games at the Farley Way Stadium and the club’s nickname is the Fox Hunters. The team was formed back in 1924 under their initial guise, Quorn Methodists.
Quorn’s player/manager will be a familiar face to Matlock Town fans. Former Gladiator Cleveland Taylor took over as Quorn’s player/manager in May. Taylor played for Matlock back in 2017 and has played for the likes of Scunthorpe United, Carlisle United, Burton Albion and St Johnstone. He also played for Jamaica at U20 and U23 levels.
The team’s best ever performance in the FA Cup came in the 2006-07 season when the Fox Hunters reached the Third Qualifying Round. This season, Quorn defeated Melton Town 2-0 at home in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Qualifying Round and then beat Barton Town 2-0 at home in the Preliminary Qualifying Round.
