Matlock Town face Guiseley away from home on Tuesday evening in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. The Gladiators will be looking to secure their second victory in a row following last weekend's 4-2 triumph at home against Warrington Rylands in the league.
A win tonight could see Matlock Town move into second position in the NPL Premier Division.
The Opposition
Guiseley currently occupy 15th position in the NPL Premier Division. In their most recent game, they were knocked out of the FA Cup in the second qualifying round following a 2-0 defeat away at Blyth Spartans last weekend. In their last home game, Guiseley were beaten 3-1 by Marske United in the league. Guiseley enter this game in poor form; they've collected only one point from the last 12 available in the league and they've also lost their last three competitive matches in a row.
Guiseley play their home games at Nethermoor Park in the Guiseley district of Leeds in West Yorkshire. The stadium can hold up to 4,000 spectators. The club were founded in 1909 and are known as The Lions.
Their player/manager is Danny Ellis. Ellis was appointed Guiseley's manager in May this year. Ellis is a legendary figure at the club. In his first stint at the club, he made 473 appearances for the Lions. The defender was part of the Guiseley teams that won promotion to the National League North in 2010 and then promotion to the National League in 2015. He also went on to play for Harrogate Town and Farsley Celtic.
The Lions suffered a nightmare of a campaign last season. After finishing bottom of the league, Guiseley were relegated from the National League North. The last trophy the Lions lifted was in the 2014-15 campaign when Guiseley beat Chorley 3-2 to win the National League North play-offs. Guiseley are also previous FA Vase winners - they won the competition back in the 1990-91 season.
One to Watch
26 year-old midfielder James Cadman will be a key player to look out for on Tuesday evening.
The Rotherham-born player joined the Lions from Scarborough Athletic this year and was part of the Seadogs team that won the NPL Premier Division play-offs last season.
Cadman scored in Guiseley's most recent league game.
Team News
Jordan Barnett will be unavailable for Tuesday night's game. He is serving a one match suspension after picking up five yellow cards so far this season.
Previous Meeting
These two sides last played each other in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup in the Covid-hit 2020/21 season.
Guiseley beat Matlock Town 2-0 at Nethermoor Park in a hugely controversial game that was dominated by atrocious officiating. Liam Hughes, Adam Yates and coach Kayde Coppin were all sent off during the match. Labrun Mbeka converted a penalty in the 23rd minute for the Lions before Jonathan Wafula doubled Guiseley's advantage in the 67th minute.
This was a behind closed doors game due to the Covid restrictions that were in place at the time in England.
