Matlock Town Football Club have announced that the weekend of November 19-20 will be specially designated to the anti-sexism in football campaign, Her Game Too.
On November 19, Matlock Town's men's side will face off against fellow NPL Premier Division outfit Marske United in the second round of the FA Trophy at The Proctor Cars Stadium. At the same venue the following day, Matlock Town Ladies will host University Of Derby Women in the Derbyshire Girls & Ladies League Division Two league.
The Her Game Too campaign was launched back in May 2021 by a group of female football supporters who are passionate about the sport. Her Game Too is working hard to eradicate sexism in the football industry and wants women and girls of all ages to feel safe attending football games and public venues that show matches while also being able to voice their opinions on the sport without fear of sexist abuse. Since its launch 18 months ago, Her Game Too has developed a system on its website for fans to report sexist abuse within the sport and has also formed a partnership with a large number of pubs and bars across the UK that are officially marked as safe spaces for women to watch live sport. A vast number of football clubs in the UK (including Premier League outfits) have formed official partnerships with the anti-sexism campaign including Matlock Town who announced their partnership with the group last season.
Across both matches at The Proctor Cars Stadium, Matlock Town's male and female players will wear official Her Game Too shirts during their warm-ups on the pitch. Junior girls and boys matches will also take place at Causeway Lane before both games kick off with junior girls team members also appearing as mascots for the game on Saturday while junior boys team members will appear as mascots for the women's game the following day.
One of the co-founders of Her Game Too, Eve Ralph, will be present at The Proctor Cars Stadium for Saturday's cup tie between the Gladiators and Marske United. Eve is also a Her Game Too ambassador for Bristol City. A number of posters advertising the campaign will also be placed around The Proctor Cars Stadium with details of the website. The weekend will also be documented widely on all of Matlock Town's social media channels in the days building up to the weekend as well as across both matches. It was confirmed just before the start of the 2022-23 season that Matlock Town Ladies would have a permanent home at The Proctor Cars Stadium going forward. Since his appointment earlier this year, Matlock Town chairman Jason Beaumont has been very keen to reinforce the club's commitment to being a community club for the Derbyshire Dales town and a club that is all-inclusive and welcoming to everyone. In a statement about the Her Game Too weekend, Beaumont said: “Matlock Town Football Club wholeheartedly supports this campaign and we’re thrilled to be able to welcome Eve Ralph to our game against Marske. The womens’ game is evolving at pace and we all saw the impact it had on our nation with England’s women winning the Euros during the summer. As a club we welcome everyone to our games and it’s nice to see many ladies and girls attending our games now and long may that continue. We have a number of girls and junior sides plus it’s great to be able to have our ladies playing their home games at the Proctor Cars Stadium when season ticket holders can gain free entry. We’re fully behind seeing the ladies game develop further and seeing more female fans at our matches and as a club we’ll do everything we can to back this campaign.” For further information on the Her Game Too campaign, visit hergametoo.co.uk.
