Mickleover welcome title challengers South Shields to Don Amott Arena

Mickleover facing off against Grantham Town in early December.

Mickleover will be looking to continue their strong start to the year as title challengers South Shields visit the Don Amott Arena.

Mickleover impressively dismantled Hyde United 4-1 away from home thanks to a Phil Watt brace and goals from Pablo Mills and Mason Warren, and they will need a similar performance if they are to stand a chance of getting a result from high flying South Shields.

The Mariners sit in third place in the league, just two points off Matlock Town at the top of the table. They also have a game in hand on Buxton in second and at least one game in hand on all the teams below them as well.

Meanwhile, Sports are at the other end of the table and despite last week’s win they find themselves in 19thplace. Mickleover have played more games than anyone else in the league, Witton Albion who are two points below Sports in 20th have six games in hand on them and Ashton in the place above have five games in hand!

Mickleover are expecting their biggest crowd of the season and the players will need to be at their best to send them home happy as South Shields have only lost one away game all season which came back at the start of October against Bamber Bridge.

The Mariners have only played five games since the beginning of November, winning two of them including the 1-0 win in their most recent fixture against Scarborough Athletic at home.

Mickleover last faced off against South Shields on the opening day of the season in a 3-0 away defeat.

South Shields are a relatively new side having been founded in 1974, their manager Graham Fenton played in the Premier League between 1992 and 2000 for Aston Villa, Leicester and Blackburn respectively.

The match kicks off at 3pm at the Don Amott Arena and with big crowds expected, fans have been advised to get down to the ground early.
