NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH REPORT: BUXTON WIN LATE ON AGAINST SPENNYMOOR

Buxton secured a late win over Spennymoor to claim all three points at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium.

After 11 minutes, the home side had the first chance of the game, with Oliver Ewing firing a low effort into the hands of Brad James.

At the other end, The Moors were awarded a free kick 25 yards out. Matty Dolan stepped up and curled the ball over the wall, but Paul Cooper was equal to it.

Luke Brennan then delivered a pinpoint ball over the top to find Tommy Elliott, but James was quick off his line to deny the attack and claim the ball, ensuring the sides went into the break level.

Buxton started the second half brightly, with two quick opportunities falling to Elliott. First, James miskicked the ball, allowing Elliott to try his luck from distance, only to see his effort crash against the woodwork. Moments later, a cross found him at the far post, but he couldn’t direct his effort on target.

Just 10 minutes later, The Bucks thought they had broken the deadlock when Johnny Johnston latched onto a through ball from Elliott and slotted it home. However, despite appearing to time his run to perfection, the offside flag went up, and the score remained level.

Elliott came close once again in the 70th minute, flashing a shot just wide of the post as Buxton continued to push for a winner.

Their persistence finally paid off in added time when substitute Keziah Martin whipped in a cross that was turned into the net by Spennymoor player Finley Shrimpton, securing a dramatic 1-0 victory.
