NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH REPORT: BUXTON WIN OVER SCARBOROUGH IN THEIR HUNT FOR THE PLAYOFFS

Three different goal-scorers secured a win away at Scarborough Athletic for Buxton as they continue the hunt for the playoffs.

The Bucks had the first chance of the game after Luke Brennan found Oliver Ewing. The midfielder came inside, unleashing a low shot that forced Ryan Whitley into a save.

After nine minutes, Scarborough forward Stephen Walker put True Grant under pressure, getting a foot to the goalkeeper’s clearance, but the ball went behind for a goal kick.

Ethan Mann then switched the play from a deep position, finding Brennan on the left-hand side. Brennan once again linked up with Ewing, whose shot was fired over the goal.

Following a spell where not much happened, Scarborough broke away with speed, with Sam Reed’s effort on the right saved behind for a corner.

Former Buxton player Alex Brown, after some quick footwork, almost gave the home side the lead, but his shot struck the crossbar.

Despite this, Buxton took the lead in the 38th minute through Kieran Burton. Brennan launched a high free-kick into the box, which was flicked on by Bobby Faulkner and found the feet of the defender, who calmly slotted it into the corner to make it 1–0 going into the break.

Scarborough’s Harry Green came close to equalising with his cross being saved away by the outstretched hand of Grant.

And they continued to search for it with Brown finding the side netting with his shot after a looped in cross over the Buxton goalkeeper.

The Bucks doubled their lead in the 62nd minute with Kirby’s strike in the area saved, only to fall to the feet of Cian Coleman who finished it off from close range.

Only four minutes later Buxton had another when Johnny Johnston finished off a passing move smashing it past Whitley in goal.

Substitute Ryan Viggars almost added another one late on but saw his shot blocked by a Scarborough defender.

With Scarborough pushing to get a late goal , Buxton defended well to see out the win with a clean sheet.
