NEWS: Derby County winger Mason Bennett in controversial leaked Snapchat video

Mason Bennett has seen his eventful 2019/20 season take another turn as a private Snapchat video was leaked on Twitter earlier today, which saw the Derby winger aim derogatory terms towards Pride Park Stadium.

The four second video that Bennett posted himself on his private Snapchat feed appeared to show the 23 year-old telling Pride Park to, “F***ing burn, f***ing burn.”

This a comment which Bennett describes as a “private joke” between him and a friend.

This isn’t the first time the academy graduate has bought the club into the spotlight for the wrong reason this season.

Alongside teammate Tom Lawrence and then club captain Richard Keogh, Derby County were thrust into national media spotlight after an alcohol fuelled car accident which left his former skipper out for the season, before being sacked by the club.

Bennett and Lawrence were fined by the football club and were back in the squad after being absent for just one game.

“I understand that such actions have serious consequences. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept the punishment that the club has issued,” explained Bennett regarding the fine from Derby for his part in the scandal.

“I have to and will learn from these events, and will strive to be a better person. There’s no excuse for what I’ve done. I’m sorry to my family, my friends, the club, all Derby supporters and to the wider football community. I let you all down.”

The latest episode in the on-loan Millwall wingers season is one that is likely to see him leave Pride Park on a permanent basis this summer. His current Derby County deal is due to expire next summer after penning a new deal before joining the Rams' Championship rivals on loan in January.

The Shirebrook-born winger has taken to Twitter shortly after the video was shared to explain his actions and apologise to the Derby County fans: “The video that’s comes out was a private joke, didn’t mean any harm to the derby fans. The club has been great with me and [I] will always be greatful. I apologise if I’ve offended anyone.

“There is a picture of my good friend shinz and it was a joke to him,” explained Bennett is a series of two tweets sent out shortly after the video was leaked.

Derby fans on Twitter are unhappy with the 23 year-old after his latest incident to bring the club into the spotlight this season, with many fans calling for him to leave the club.

Commenting on Twitter regarding Derby’s refusal to comment on the video JakeBarber1212 said: “Don’t blame them tbf. What can they realistically say? I have a feeling we won’t see Bennett in a Derby shirt again.”

TheWarsmith was keen to see the troubled winger leave, adding: “Just a shame he’ll go for free but otherwise good get him gone.”

Derby County have refused to comment on the matter thus far.
