NEWS: Jordan Sinnott passes away

Some truly heartbreaking news as Matlock Town midfielder Jordan Sinnott passed away at 7pm earlier today.

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that Jordan was involved in a serious assault in Retford in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He was taken to hospital and treated for life-threatening injuries. His family and friends were with him at his bedside.

Matlock's game away at Mickleover Sports and Alfreton's home game against Gateshead were both called off as a result of the incident.

The midfielder played for three Derbyshire clubs, Chesterfield, Alfreton Town and the Gladiators.

Jordan started his career with Huddersfield Town and made five first team appearances in his three years in West Yorkshire.

He had loan spells with Altrincham and Bury whilst at the Terriers, eventually joining the former on a permanent deal in 2015.

He spent a year with the National League club before joining Halifax Town in the sixth tier of English Football.

Jordan was an integral part of the Shaymen's squad that season, helping Halifax to promotion after a 2-1 win over Chorley in the National League North play-off final.

The Spireites signed the midfielder in the summer of 2017 but Jordan only made eight appearances as the North Derbyshire side were relegated to the National League.

The 25-year-old moved south of the Proact Stadium to join Alfreton Town in 2018, where he spent a season before moving to Matlock Town on loan in August 2019.

He has been at the Proctor Cars Stadium since and scored his first career hat-trick just ten days ago as the Gladiators beat Basford United 5-0 in the Integro League Cup.

Everyone at Derbyshire Media Company sends their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jordan Sinnott.
