PREVIEW: Buxton face Warrington looking to build on win against Chester

Buxton are back at home as they face Warrington Town on 23rd January with a 7:45pm kickoff.


The Bucks


Buxtons game against Boston was postponed at the weekend due to a frozen pitch.


The Bucks go into this game following the 1-0 win against Chester last week.


Sam Osbornes early goal gained The Bucks  a much needed 3 points on the road.


Following the victory manager Craig Elliott said:


“There's a lot of hard work in front of us, but I hope the lads have regained confidence after this excellent result at Chester. “


Buxton made a number of backroom staff changes before last weeks game and have also added 2 new additions to the squad


Joe Young joined from Wolves on loan for the rest of the season and made his debut in the game last week keeping a clean sheet in between the sticks.


The Bucks have a new assistant manager as well. Ryan Qualter will work with manager Craig, along with Josh Granite, who is now a player-coach.


Accomplished defender Ryan, 32, has switched to the Bucks from Scarborough Athletic, with earlier clubs including Matlock Town, Alfreton and Boston United.


In addition to working as assistant manager at the Tarmac Silverlands, he is going to continue with his registration as a player.


And Joe Ackroyd has returned on loan for the rest of the season following his successful spell in the last half of last season with The Bucks.


Opposition


The club finished 2nd in the Northern Premier League and won the playoffs to get promoted  after beating Bamber Bridge 1-0 in the final.


Warrington Town are nicknamed the yellows which ties in with their home kit colours.


The club was founded in 1949 as Stockton Heath by Jimmy Drinkwater.


The Club play their games at Cantilever Park which has a capacity of 2550.


They currently sit in 13th on 38 points after 28 games.


The Yellows manager is former Forest Green Rovers striker Mark Beesley taking charge in November 2021.


One to Watch

Dan Atherton despite being a goalkeeper has scored 2 goals for the yellows this season after adding his second in their last game.


He was previously at Hyde and was also in Liverpool’s youth academy.


Last Time Out


Andrew early goal from Warrington gave the home side all 3 points in August.


Last time the 2 sides met was at the Silverlands in January 2022 in a 3-3 draw a Jamie Ward double and Tommy Elliott goal met The Bucks shared the points.
