Looking to break a four game winless run, Gresley welcome Racing Club Warwick to the Moat Ground on Saturday.
The Moatmen will be looking to bounce back at the weekend after a clinical Sporting Khalsa side walked away with a 4-1 victory - Gresley’s first home defeat in three. Their opponents are Racing Club Warwick, and Gresley will be hoping they can claim just their third three-point haul of the season.
Racing Club Warwick currently sit 15th in the Midland Premier League with 19 points from 17 games, and could leapfrog Tividale into 14th with a win over the Moatmen. Gresley, meanwhile, are hoping to close the gap on Lye Town to just one point and put even more distance between them and bottom side, Selston.
A Look at the Opposition
Warwick enjoyed a fruitful afternoon last weekend as they claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory over Long Eaton United. Goals in the 89th and 91st minutes saw Warwick come from 2-1 down to claim three points.
It has not been an enjoyable time for the Racers of late however as this victory snapped a run of five games without a win including 9-0, 5-0 and 3-0 away demolitions to Worcester City, Newark Flowserve and Boldmere St Michaels consecutively. However four points from their last two games suggests an upturn in form that should worry Gresley.
The Moatmen however will be aware that Warwick have only won once away from home so far this season - a 2-1 win at AFC Wulfrunians in mid-October.
The two sides have already met this season and it ended as a stalemate in a 2-2 draw. It would’ve felt like a win for Gresley though who came from 2-0 down in the second half to claim a point. The Moatmen, however, will be looking to go one better on Saturday.
One to Watch
The Racers top scorer, Danny Fraser, is someone the Moatmen will have to keep an eye on. Coming on as a substitute against Long Eaton, Fraser scored in injury time for his fourth goal of the season and to seal his side a valuable three points.
A Look at the Manager
The Racers’ current man at the helm is Scott Easterlow who has been in charge of the Coventry-based outfit since May 2017.
Easterlow has enjoyed a successful stint thus far at the helm of Racing Club Warwick, overseeing the side’s promotion to their current level. In his first full season as manager he led them to a respectable 5th place in Division One before gaining promotion to the Midland Premier Division after finishing in second just behind league victors Heather St Johns.
Now, along with Heather, they have started their journey at this level, and so far they are doing well. Despite not reaching the heights that the Ravens are, the Racers look to be stabilising in this tier and they will hope that a strong end to the season will propel them up the table.
