After picking up their first three points of the season on Saturday, Chesterfield look to continue winning ways down in Surrey.
The Opposition
The U’s finished 10th in the table last term. Matt Gray took over the managerial reigns at the beginning of the season after Paul Doswell resigned for ‘personal reasons’ after eleven years in charge.
The 37-year-old has previously been an assistant at Eastleigh, Aldershot and Crawley. There have been some departures from Gander Green Lane, with five players from last season following their former-manager to Havant and Waterloovile.
Matt Gray’s side have suffered a disappointing start to this campaign winning only two games against Hartlepool United and Boreham Wood. However, United have drawn six this season, only falling to defeat three times.
One To Watch
Harry Beautyman- Despite being a central midfielder the 27-year-old is the U’s top scorer this season with five goals. Beautyman came up through the youth system at Leyton Orient.
He signed a professional contract in 2009, but didn’t make an appearance for the East London side Instead he enjoyed loan spells at St Albans City and Hastings United before signing a permanent contract at Sutton United in 2011, scoring 21 goals in 81 appearances.
Beautyman has spent time in the Football League with Peterborough, Northampton and Stevenage, but he returned to the National League for his second spell at Sutton in January 2018.
Previous Meetings
The only meetings between the two sides were last season in the National League. An 89th minute Johnathan Smith strike rescued a point for the Spireites down at Gander Green Lane, but Chesterfield came out well on top in the home fixtures as their cruised to a 3-0 victory in front of the BT Sport cameras.
Team News
Sheridan said Anthony Gerrard picked up a slight problem with his hamstring against Bromley a few weeks ago, but he expects him to be fit for the fixture against Sutton. However, comments made on social media by the 33-year-old have led to him receiving a ‘significant financial penalty’ and may impact his chances of returning to the starting eleven.
Tom Denton made his debut this season and played a key part in the Spireites’ first win this season, but Sheridan wants to be cautious with him because of the synthetic pitch at Gander Green Lane.
Anthony Spyrou will not be fit but is looking like he will available for selection for Tuesday night’s fixture against Hartlepool and David Buchanan is not ready to make a return.
Sheridan’s Thoughts
Sheridan felt relieved that his side secured their first win of the season on Saturday but admitted it wasn’t a great performance.
Sheridan said: “I still feel as though we need a left-sided player just to balance us up.”
Gevaro Nepomuceno is also ready to go straight into the squad after completing his loan move from Oldham Athletic yesterday.
