The Opposition
Gary Johnson’s side have secured six points from a possible nine so far this season. On the opening day of the season an injury time winner grabbed all three points against big-spenders Stockport County. In midweek United were beaten away to Eastleigh but they returned to winning ways on Saturday against Bromley when Danny Wright’s 93rd minute penalty won it at the death for the side from Devon.
One-To-Watch
Danny Wright- The 36-year-old has earnt himself a reputation at this level, playing for a number of clubs in the National League including Forest Green, Wrexham and Gateshead. Following a stint at Kidderminster, the target man joined Cheltenham Town where he played under current Gulls’ boss Johnson. The Robins went on to win the National League and Wright went on to make 74 appearances, scoring 12 goals in League Two before returning to the National League to join Solihull Moors. After making 72 appearances and scoring 17 goals for the West Midlands side, the striker decided to link up with former boss Johnson and make the move to Plainmoor.
Previous Meetings
Last Season Chesterfield did the double over the Gulls.
At the Technique Stadium John Sheridan guided the Spireites to their first win of the season against Torquay when Scott Boden netted the only goal of the game to give the Spireites a long-awaited first victory.
In the reverse fixture, Chesterfield cruised to a 3-0 win a few days before Christmas, in what turned out to be Sheridan’s last victory as Spireites’ boss. Jack Mckay opened the scoring in the 1st minute, before Curtis Weston and Haydn Hollis found the back of the net also.
Team News
John Pemberton said Liam Mandeville has given him a ‘big headache for tomorrow’ after he came off the bench and changed Saturday’s game.
He added that Josef Yarney didn’t feature on Saturday due to injury and that Nathan Tyson is ‘getting there’.
Pemberton’s Thoughts
The Gaffer spoke to the press ahead of the big game: 'It's a long trip tomorrow, there is so much planning with these things, especially at the minute with the virus.
'No game in this league is easy. I can't remember any game that has ever been easy if I'm honest, they have all been tough. There's not much between each team. Tomorrow is tough and Saturday is on the past now, we must move forward and keep pushing on.'
