REPORT: 10 man Spireites earn hard-fought point against Daggers

James Rowe was forced to make two changes to the side who drew against Boreham Wood in midweek. Gavin Gunning replaced the suspended Jak McCourt and Marcus Dinanga came in to replace Joe Rowley who has a hamstring injury.

Chesterfield started very much on the front foot, presenting a real threat to Daggers in the opening minutes.

They had the back of the net when George Carline headed in Tom Whelan’s free-kick but the referee ruled the goal offside for a foul during the set-piece.

In the 10th minute the Spireites were reduced to ten men when Whelan saw red for a high foot on Dagenham’s Alex Reynolds.

However the Spireites took the lead 7 minutes later when skipper Will Evans’ low drilled shot found the back of the net.

But the Daggers hit back when some great play from Paul McCallum and Andrew Eleftheriou allowed Scott Wilson to stab home from close range, putting his side back on level terms.

Just before the break Chesterfield re-took the lead through Akwasi Asante. Haydn Hollis did brilliantly to turn his man and send a dangerous ball into the area which was palmed away by Elliot Justham for Asante to tap home from close range.

Daryll McMahon made a double substitution at the interval with Sam Deering one of the men coming on.

The midfielder made an instant impact, forcing Adam Pryzbeck to tip his long range effort onto the post.

However Deering did find the back of the net in the 52nd minute with a wonder-strike into the top right corner which left the Spireites ‘keeper with no chance.

5 minutes later Evans got close to putting his side back into the lead when he nearly connected with Carline’s cross at the back post, which only needed a touch.

The hosts had the ball in the back of the net in the 71st minute but the referee overruled the linesman to disallow the goal for offside.

Pryzbeck and Gunning both made crucial clearances to keep the scores level and the 10 man Spireites stood firm to take home a hard-fought point on the road.

Chesterfield (3-5-2): Przybek; Evans, Hollis, Maguire; Carline, Gunning (M.Smith 79), Weston, Whittle; Dinanga (Mandeville 63), Asante.

Unused Substitutes: Yarney, Taylor, Clarke
