REPORT: Belper Town progress to the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup

Belper Town are through to the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup after a 1-0 win in extra-time against Witton Albion.

Belper Town manager Grant Black made one change to the starting eleven when the teams met in the last tie, Danny Gordon came into the starting line-up and Charlie Dawes was dropped from the squad.

The opening twenty five minutes of the first half were fairly even, then Belper had three corners in a row but the Witton Albion defenders held their line to keep the score at 0-0.

Six minutes later Witton Albion had a chance but the effort went over the bar and the scores remained level at half time.

The opening ten minutes of the second half was dominated by Belper. Witton were there to clear a corner away.

On the 75th minute the ball was crossed in by Nathan Curtis and the came to Alex Peterson who headed the ball to Derry Robson. However, the midfielder put the ball over the bar.

The last fifteen minutes was void of any chances from either team and the game ended goalless and went into extra time.

During the first five minutes of extra time, Liam Goulding for Witton Albion had his long range effort saved by Musselwhite.

Five minutes later Belper had a corner on the right handside, the ball was cleared by the Witton Albion defender and the ball came to Riece Bertram on the right hand side. Bertram crossed the ball in to Phil Watt, who’s headed attempt at goal struck a Witton Albion defender before flying into the back of the net.

The last minutes of the first half of extra time were fairly even and Belper went a goal up into the halftime break of extra time.

Very few chances in the last period of extra time, resulted in Belper Town earning a place in the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round against Rushall Olympic at home on Saturday 5th October.

Belper Town: Musselwhite, Bryant, Clark (Ridley 105), Bertram, South, Watt, Robson, Nelthorpe (Waldram 60), Peterson, Curtis (Milner 90), Gordon (Wright 97).
