REPORT: Buxton draw in stalemate with Leek

Buxton continued their pre-season preparations with a hard-fought goalless draw against Leek Town.

The Bucks started brightly, winning their first corner just four minutes in through Tommy Elliott.

Shortly after, a precise cross from Josh Williams found Diego De Girolamo, whose shot was saved down low by the Leek goalkeeper.

Buxton's pressure continued as a trialist fired over after a corner in the 11th minute, followed by a save from the Leek keeper off Elliott's effort.

Leek responded with a dangerous ball across the face of Buxton’s goal in the 29th minute, but Tim Grice couldn't connect with Lucas Weir’s cross.

Early in the second half, De Girolamo had a shot blocked for a corner in the 49th minute, with Djavan Pedro heading just over from the resulting set piece.

Buxton nearly broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when Williams drove down the line and sent a low cross into the box, but the trialist couldn't convert, and the ball was eventually cleared by the Leek defence.

Leek had two promising chances in the 78th minute, both involving a trialist. True Grant, in goal for Buxton, dealt well with the first effort, catching the ball, and watched the second effort go just wide.

Buxton's Dylan Mantle crossed the ball to a trialist in the box in the 81st minute but he couldn’t direct his header goalwards.

Despite the numerous opportunities for The Bucks, the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

The game provided valuable minutes for the players as Buxton continues their pre-season schedule having now got a win a loss and a draw from the first 3 games.

The Bucks will next face Worksop Town away on Tuesday, looking to build on their solid performance against Leek Town.
