Chesterfield failed to find a breakthrough against an out-of-form Wealdstone side who held James Rowe’s men to a goalless draw.
Rowe oped for two changes to his starting eleven. Liam Mandeville came in to replace Alex Whittle and Will Evans made a return in place of Gavin Gunning who is carrying a hamstring injury.
The Spireites put Wealdstone under some early pressure with three corners and a few long throws.
Adi Yussuf looked to open the scoring through spectacular fashion when his overhead kick in the 7th minute was denied by the crossbar.
The visitors grew into the half and had a chance of their own just after the half hour mark when Dennon Lewis’ long-range effort was deflected over.
Chesterfield thought they had the lead in the 38th minute when Josef Yarney bundled home through a number of bodies from a corner, however the goal was disallowed by the linesman.
Rowe decided to opt for another attacking option and made his first substitution at the break with Yussuf, who received a yellow card just before the interval, making way for Marcus Dinanga.
The Stevenage-loanee nearly opened the scoring within his first minute on the pitch when he went through on goal but George Shelvey made a smart save to deny him. There were strong appeals from the Chesterfield camp for a handball inside the area, however referee Robert Massey-Ellis waved away the appeals.
The best chance so far of the game fell the way of Wealdstone in the 53rd minute. A teasing cross from Lewis fell to Sonny Lo-Everton whose volley forced James Montgomery into an excellent save; tipping over for a corner.
A few minutes later Montgomery was forced into action again after Jacob Mendy nicked the ball and flew off on the counter following a poor Chesterfield corner. The Stones man found Hughes however his header was kept out by the Spirietes’ keeper.
Chesterfield had a number of half-chances in the remainder of the game but failed to find a breakthrough against a resilient Wealdstone side.
