REPORT: Morgan-Smith double helps Reds thump Braford

Danny Clarke celebrates his goal with strike partner Amari Morgan-Smith.

Amari Morgan-Smith’s first half brace inspired Alfreton to a 4-0 win over Bradford park Avenue.

The Reds maintained their unbeaten start at home this season with a dominant win over strugglers Bradford.

Morgan-Smith opened the scoring for the Reds, calmly rounding the Bradford Park Avenue goalkeeper before tapping home into the open goal.

Bradford were never really in the game, but they thought they had levelled the score in the first half.

Akeem Hinds had been played through and finished excellently, but his sides celebrations were quickly squashed by the raising of the linesman’s flag.

The forward had his second just before the break, Morgan-Smith was dragged down in the penalty area. He stepped up to the spot and emphatically fired it into the back of the net.

The Reds weren’t ready to let up in the second half, picking up their third just 12 minutes later.

Danny Clarke had been pressing the Bradford defence all afternoon and his hard work finally payed off, intercepting a misplaced pass from a Bradford defender before coolly slotting home.

It was soon four after Josh Wilde’s low cross into the six-yard box deflected off a Bradford defender and into the top corner of his own goal.

Morgan-Smith almost had his hat-trick late on, meeting a cross into the box but he was unable to generate the power to beat the Bradford shot stopper.

Alfreton would have been desperate to make the Impact Arena somewhat of a fortress this season, so seven points from a possible nine will be a much-welcomed start to the season.

The Reds are now sat in eighth in the National League North, just one point off the play-off spots.

Alfreton will have to cause somewhat of an upset if they are to make it back-to-back wins as they travel to second place Guiseley.

Alfreton Town: Atkinson, Clackstone, Wilde (Bacon 80), Lynch (Whitham 67), Qualter, Killock, Thacker, Smith, Clarke (Tomlinson 75), Morgan-Smith, Johnson

Attendance: 378
