A brace from Luke Rawson helped a Chesterfield XI to a 3-1 victory over Staveley Miners Welfare at Inkersall Road.
The Trojans welcomed the Spireites to the home Northern Counties East League Premier Division side as the bid to raise £50,000 for a 3G pitch got underway.
Familiar names appeared in the Chesterfield XI as they set out to control the game from the very start. Staveley gave an excellent account of themselves with only four changes from the side that won on Saturday.
It took four minutes for the Spireites to get the first goal of the evening. Mike Fondop used quick footwork before placing a superb cross onto Rawson's head, who converted from close range.
Rawson would later double the visitors lead when Charlie Wakefield beat three players heading into the area. The midfielders pass was sent across the goal mouth, Rawson was on hand to double his tally.
The second goal for Chesterfield was the best thing to happen for Staveley as the hosts began to show glimpses of why they are second in the NCEL Premier, Joe Pugh's left footed shot was tipped over by Ross Fitzsimons.
Just ten minutes later, Sam Finlaw found himself in plenty of space 30-yards out, as he closed in on goal, his effort forced another fantastic save from Fitzsimons.
Just as Staveley started to get the momentum going, Wakefield would add to Chesterfield's lead, he side-stepped two Staveley defenders before beating Myles Wright at his near post.
The second half saw three changes for Staveley and they started the second half very similar to how they ended the second, in full control.
It was Chesterfield though that was the first to get a clear cut chance, Fondop and Levi Amantchi forcing multiple fantastic saves from Wright in the Trojans goal.
As the game drew nearer the end, it was only a matter of time before the Chesterfield defence broke, Alex Sanderson, making his first appearance for the first team, played an intelligent pass to Matty Parkin who confidently pulled one back.
It was the least the Trojans deserved as the second half was very much controlled by the hosts who pushed on for a second.
Fondop and Amantchi both found the net with minutes to go but the goals were ruled thanks to the flag of the linesman.
The full-time whistle blew with Staveley giving a very good account for themselves. The game really proved the depth within the Spireites squad as well as the ability within the Trojans team.
