REPORT: Tough start to season affects Dronfield once more

Updated: Aug 19, 2019

The tough start to the new season again told on Dronfield Town as they went down 3-1 at home to Skegness Town.

Two late goals from the Lincolnshire side sealed the points as Dronfield slipped to a second consecutive defeat.

Things were going swimmingly for Dronfield up to half time. A 19th minute penalty from last season’s top scorer Mark Fereday saw the Dronfeldians into the changing rooms at the break with a narrow advantage.

Skegness got back on level terms with a free kick from the edge of the box through Daniel Brooks in the 59th minute.

As the game reached the closing stages, a 30-yard effort from Jordan Smith curled into the top corner to put the visitors in front.

And as if to rub salt into the wounds, Skegness confirmed the three points deep in added time. Substitute William Britton went one on one with Dronfield keeper Lewis Naylor to send the Lincolnshire side home with the spoils.

Things don’t get any easier for Chris Millington’s Dronfield side as they next head to high-flying Retford FC. The Tuesday night encounter will see Town looking to overturn the form book and inflict a first defeat on the newly promoted Retford team.

Skegness Town: Lambley, Parker, Norburn, Humble, Brooks, Clarke, Hobbins, Davison, Hutchinson, King, Morrell.
