South Shields visit Mickleover as Sports look to make it five wins in a row

Mickleover in action against Witton Albion

Mickleover are looking to continue their perfect start to 2022 as they host high flying South Shields tonight at The Don Amott Arena.

Mickleover beat Radcliffe FC 4-1 at the weekend thanks to a Stuart Beavon hat-trick, making it four wins from four this year.

South Shields also won at the weekend, they beat Atherton Collieries 2-1 at home which put them just one point off the top of the table.

Shields also have a game in hand on Matlock Town in first, which is tonights game against Mickleover so they are guaranteed to be motivated to get the three points.

Sports' recent run of form has eased their relegation fears and they now sit six points clear of the relegation zone having beaten three of the four teams below them already this year.

This match was meant to take place back in January but was postponed due to Covid in the South Shields squad.

The reverse fixture between the two sides took place on the opening day of the season with South Shields coming away 3-0 winners.

Despite their successes this season, The Mariners recently replaced manager Graham Fenton with former England international Kevin Phillips taking over.

Phillips, 47 is taking on the first managerial role of his career with South Shields having previously coached at Derby County, Stoke and Leicester.

With a lot on the line and both teams coming into the game in decent form, it promises to be an entertaining encounter at The Don Amott Arena.

The game kicks off tonight at 7:45pm, tickets are available on the door.
