Chesterfield have signed winger Kyel Reid on a deal lasting until the end of the season.
Reid spent last season on loan at Colchester from Coventry, scoring three goals in 17 appearances. He has played for 12 other clubs before joining the Spireites, one of those being Sheffield United where he only played seven times.
Reid has represented England at youth level, making 40 appearances for all youth levels combined.
He had his best spell at Bradford between 2011 and 2014, representing them 96 times and scoring ten times.
Reid is only thirty years old and still has a lot to give; he started his career in the Premier League with West Ham getting very little game time. Since then, Reid has played his entire career in the Football League, which gives Martin Allen's side the different type of experience which the Spireites need in a long ten month season.
After being released by Coventry City at the end of the season Reid will be looking to revitalise his career at the Proact and give Martin Allen's side more depth on the wings.
This signing came as a shock to most Chesterfield fans as Martin Allen has previously said his squad is complete and that he wouldn't make any more signings. This could be inspired by the performance on Tuesday and the lack of options on the bench.
"He's a good player. We are a little bit short," Allen told Chesterfield's club website.
Reid is ready for the battle at the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday and will be involved in the squad according to Martin Allen.
