Spireites add reinforcement to their attack

John Sheridan has added to his Chesterfield side with the signing of former Doncaster Rovers forward Liam Mandeville.

The 22-year-old, who spent the 2018/19 season out loan at League Two side Morecambe, signed a two year deal with the Spireites after he was released by Doncaster.

The striker has also spent time out on loan at Whitby Town and Colchester United, and had a lot of game time at Morecambe, playing in 46 games and scoring on 4 occasions.

Still young and hungry - but good enough to start?

Mandeville has been at Doncaster since 2015 after growing up in Lincoln and found scoring prolifically difficult.

However, still at the young age of 22 and with John Sheridan in his ear, he has the opportunity turn his career around and push the Spireites up the National League.

Speaking back in 2016 Darren Ferguson said of Mandeville: "He's got good vision, he can finish with both feet and he's very good technically."

Sheridan will hope he can squeeze every bit of quality out of him after former Spireite Marc-Antoine Fortuné - signed by ex-boss Martin Allen - showed that an experienced attacker isn't always the best option.

Mandeville will look to get fit and ready in pre-season for the Spireites as he will have to compete with fan favourites Tom Denton and Scott Boden as well as youth products Levi Amantchi and Joe Rawson. Who should start in attack next season?
