Chesterfield have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Tom Denton from Alfreton Town for an undisclosed fee.
Denton has enjoyed a good start to the season with the Reds. The striker has netted six times in nine outings and left Alfreton in the play-off places of the National League North.
Martin Allen was impressed by the target man during Alfreton's 2-0 win over the Spireites in pre-season. He scored the second goal with a header past Joe Anyon.
The Yorkshire-born forward started his career at Wakefield before securing a move to his hometown club, Huddersfield Town.
Unfortunately for Denton, he failed to break into the Terriers' starting 11. He subsequently spent time on loan at Woking, Wakefield and Cheltenham Town. During his time at the Robins, he was handed his Football League debut by the current Spireites boss.
A second spell would follow at Wakefield but after a year, the striker signed for Greater Manchester side Mossley.
Denton joined Alfreton Town for the first time in 2012. However, after limited playing time, he joined Worksop Town on loan.
He enjoyed a fantastic loan spell at Worksop in which the forward netted 11 times in 11 games, and the Tigers signed the striker for a club record fee in December 2012.
He formed a deadly partnership with fellow strikers Leon Mettam and Jack Muldoon. The trio scored 101 goals en-route to a play-off semi-final.
A move to North Ferriby United would follow. During his time with the then-National League North side, he helped the Villagers win the FA Trophy after beating Wrexham on penalties.
After a spell with FC Halifax Town, Denton joined Alfreton Town for the second time in May 2018.
The Chesterfield boss was happy with his latest signing: "Tom Denton is a player we've been after for a while and he gives us another option to score goals and make goals.
"He's come from a lower level so he has a hunger to prove himself and do better."
On the opposite side of the coin, Billy Heath was dissapointed to see Denton leave the Impact Arena: "We're extremely disappointed to let Tom go, we know what he brings to the table, know what he offers.
"It's a loss for us but when an opportunity like this comes for a player, I've always stood by the fact that we have to let the player take it.
"We won’t rush into anything; we have fantastic forwards at the football club all with bags of quality and we will take our time. Yes it’s disappointing but you look at where we are after nine games, we’re in a great position in the league and we want to continue that."
Denton will be looking to play his first game for the Spireites on Saturday against Dagenham & Redbridge. He will also hope to break Chesterfield's five game goalless streak.
