Mickleover Sports welcome Stalybridge Celtic this Saturday to the Don Amott Arena with both sides aiming to have a better season than last.

The Opposition

Stalybridge finished 3 points ahead of John McGrath’s men as both sides managed to survive the relegation dog fight in the northern premier last season.

The Celts also managed to keep hold of top scorer Neil Kengni-Kuemo who will be hoping to improve on his 12 goals from last season.

Simon Howarth’s men will be hoping to improve their record against Sports as they haven’t beaten them in their last four meetings. The last time to two sides met, Mickleover ran out 2-1 winners last season.

One To Watch

Neil Kengni-Kuemo is the danger-man for The Celts after his 12 goals last season helped them beat the drop following his move from Rochdale.

Kengni-Kuemo never managed to start a game for Rochdale and his only appearance to date was when he was an unused substitute in an FA Cup tie Maidstone United in 2016. However, his 12 goals in his first season at this level make him a dangerous player who will be hungry for more.

Team News

John McGrath will have a fully fit squad at his disposal for the weekends opener which could see a number of the new singings made this summer make their debut against Stalybridge.

Predictions for the season

With the number of signings made by John McGrath in the off season and the quality that they have brought to the side it is clear that Mickleover are looking to improve on their league position from last season. Sports will be hoping to make a push into the Play-Off places.

As for Stalybridge, they managed to keep holder of star man Neil Kengni-Kuemo and will be hoping for him to score goals to help inspire the side to a better campaign than last season’s disappointment.
