Chesterfield remain on their winless streak, Alfreton suffer back-to-back defeats for the first time and Matlock's new boss loses his first game in charge, amongst many highlights from the weekend's football.
Derby's winning run in the Sky Bet Championship came to an abrupt halt following the return from the international break, as Frank Lampard was sent to the stands and the ten-man Rams were beaten at Rotherham United. Tom Lawrence's red card for a dangerous challenge on Richie Towell gave the hosts an important advantage, and Ryan Manning's spot-kick five minutes later ensured that the Millers would be the first to beat Frank Lampard's side in five games.
Chesterfield were perhaps unlucky not to find their first victory in eight outings after one defensive error forced the Spireites to settle for a draw at Dagenham and Redbridge in the National League. Curtis Weston put the Spireites deservedly ahead and the visitors could have had more, but Luke Kandi pounced on an error to lob Schwan Jalal and snatch a point.
New signing Jordan Sinnott earned a starting place for Alfreton in his first week as a Red, but he was unable to help his new side to victory as the Reds suffered back-to-back defeats in the National League North for the first time this season at the hands of unbeaten table-toppers Chorley. Despite Bobby Johnson cancelling out Matthew Challenor's opener, Adam Blakeman struck twice to earn yet another three points for the league leaders, leaving Alfreton in sixth.
Since their new artificial turf was laid down, Buxton have been unstoppable at home, winning all three fixtures on home turf so far in the NPL Premier Division, this time with a 4-1 pasting of Stafford Rangers to send the Bucks up to third in the table; Jude Oyibo, Diego De Girolamo and Alex Brown were to thank on this occasion. Saturday was much less prosperous for Mickleover and Matlock, though, who both failed to score or take any points from their league outings. Although he was unable to attend on the day, new boss Dave Frecklington didn't get the start he wanted as his Matlock side were well beaten 3-0 by league leaders South Shields, whilst Mickleover were edged out 1-0 by Farsley Celtic.
Belper sank to the bottom of the NPL East Division table after a 5-1 thrashing by Cleethorpes Town on home turf, allowing the visitors to leapfrog the Nailers and leave them at rock bottom. Gresley, meanwhile, were beaten similar by Sheffield FC, with Marc Newsham's hat-trick helping Sheffield to a 4-1 victory.
Glossop remain winless in the West Division with just two points to their name, and their confidence took another blow as the Hillmen were beaten 2-0 at Widnes, who too have had a poor start.
Having a more positive start to their season are Staveley, who eased into the first round of the FA Vase with a comfortable 4-1 win over Maine Road, in which Jahmal Riley scored on either side of Liam Greenfield's goal before Sam Finlaw rounded off the victory. Ilkeston and Long Eaton will join the Trojans in the next round after seeing off Graham St. Prims 2-0 and Ollerton Town 5-1 respectively, whilst South Normanton's season continues to look bleak as they were dumped out of the FA Vase by Selston by a 3-1 scoreline.
