Mickleover welcome fifth placed Whitby Town to the Don Amott Arena this Saturday at 3pm, hoping to rise up the table with another home win.
Whitby Town FC were formed in 1880, 68 years before Mickleover FC came about. They play their home games at the Turnbull Ground in North Yorkshire. Their joint managers are Lee Bullock and Nathan Haslam. Lee Bullock actually won his first game in management against Mickleover Sports in 2015 when he was caretaker manager for Whitby in a 4-1 win.
The two teams last played against each other back in March 2020, just before life was turned upside down, in a 1-1 draw.
Mickleover have had an average start to the season, currently sitting in ninth place having won three, drew one and lost three games so far this season.
Whilst their opponents have enjoyed a slightly better start to the season as Whitby find themselves up in fifth place, despite playing one less game than Mickleover, with four wins, one draw and one loss.
Sports will go into the game off the back of an FA cup triumph over Leek Town and their first away point of the season against Grantham Town in their last two games, with manager John McGrath looking to go level on points with Whitby with a win.
Whitby Town won their previous game 4-0 against Warrington Rylands in the FA Cup.
The Seasiders’ will be without their captain Daniel Rowe after he broke his nose in their 2-1 victory over Morpeth on August 30th.
However, they are likely to start with former Mickleover striker Jacob Hazel up top, who is their top scorer so far this season. The former Chesterfield academy player left Mickleover in 2015 and has scored three goals so far this season.
Mickleover fans will be hoping Andy Dales and Declan Bacon will be able to carry their own fine goal scoring form into the game, Dales has scored five goals and Bacon has scored four so far this season.
It has been the defence that has been the issue for Mickleover so far this season and not their goal scoring, they have conceded 13 goals in 7 league games and only three teams have conceded more.
The match could see former Derby player Lee Holmes, 34 making his debut for Mickleover although Saturday may come too early for the midfielder who was once Derby’s youngest ever first team player and scorer.
