Buxton fall to defeat after an early goal

An early Warrington Town goal made the difference, as The Bucks are still in search of their first win of the season.

Warrington took the lead just 45 seconds into the game, with Matty Grivosti finding the back of the net by smashing the ball into the far corner after receiving a pass from Aaron Bennett.

The Bucks responded well, with Connor Kirby firing over the bar as Tommy Elliott won the ball back with a high press and passed it to him at the edge of the field.

In a first half with few clear-cut chances,

Evan Gumbs headed the ball over from a corner taken by Sean Williams, into the back post where he was unmarked.

Another high press allowed Buxton to regain possession. Xander McBurnie's swinging cross had a lot of curl on it and almost caught the keeper off guard, hitting the top of the net.

Buxton had a late penalty shout when Jordan Burrow turned to take a shot and the ball hit the hand of a Warrington defender. However, the referee waved it away, and The Bucks went into halftime trailing after the early goal.

The Bucks almost had a nightmare start to the second half when Zaine Francis-Angol's attempted pass to the keeper fell short. Connor Woods picked up the ball and faked a shot before being closed down by Bucks defenders, who managed to track back and allow Max Dearnley to collect the ball.

Passing between substitute Diego De Girolamo and Elliott earned the visitors a freekick 25 yards out. De Girolamo hit the freekick low and hard toward the bottom left corner, forcing Tony Thompson into a save.

Dearnley made an outstretched save after an effort from Issac Buckley-Ricketts was deflected into his path.

Bohan Dixon almost provided a late assist in the final minute with a darting run down the right-hand side and a cross into the middle to Woods, but it went over his head and out.
