Buxton get a big win on the road

A great second half display meant Buxton won 1-4 on the road.

Southport started the game well with the ball falling to Niall Watson early on and trying to get it under control the Buxton defence cleared away.

Jack Bainbridge’s then had a dangerous cross into the six yard box that was blocked out by Josh Granite.

The ball did go in the net for the home side following a save from Theo Richardson the corner came into Carver who’s strike found the net but was ruled out for a foul on Shaun Brisley.

However Buxton pushed back with Poole crossing the ball into Scott Boden’s head who couldn’t direct the shot on target.

Into added time Connor Kirby hit a strike from range to give The Bucks the lead heading into the break.

Southport had early shouts for 2 penalties in the opening 15 minutes of the second half the first being from a Bainbridge shot that hit one of the Buxton defenders. The second was a challenge on Marcus Carver as he was dragged down but the referee waved play on.

Buxton doubled their lead when Sargent played the ball across to De Girolamo who fired it in for 0-2.

The home side continued to push to get one back with 4 consecutive corners in a row creating chances.

But The Bucks all but sealed the 3 points as they took a 3-0 lead with Substitute Sam Osborne following up a through ball and curling it round the keeper.

Southport got one back at the end as Watson curled one in from 10 yards out.

But it was to late as Jason Gilchrist smashed it in as he was played through on the final minute to secure the win.
