Pierce Bird’s header was The difference as Buxton narrowly lost 1-0 to AFC Fylde.
Fylde started the half well with and early effort from a Danny Philliskirk header just wide of the mark.
Nick Haughton tried an ambitious shot from long range to force Theo Richardson into saving behind for a corner.
The Bucks first chance of the game came from Sam Osborne picking the ball up and dragging his shot wide of Chris Neal’s goal.
Pierce Bird went into the referees book as he pulled back Tommy Elliott and then proceeded to kick the ball away.
It was an exciting end to the half with both teams having big opportunities to take the lead. The first coming from Buxton, Elliott swung a freekick from 30 yards out and Granite couldn’t direct the flick on towards goal.
The home side made Richardson pull off another save from a corner ball with Whitmore heading it on target and Richardson getting down low to stop the opener.
Fylde started the second half as they ended the first with Whitmore putting a bullet header in from a corner and Richardson pulling off a fantastic save to deny him.
Buxton responded well with a great passing play move and Osbornes shot having to be collected at the second asking by Neal.
The deadlock was broken on the 60th minute by Bird’s headed effort following Haughton’s near post corner.
The Coasters continued to put the pressure on Richardson pulling off a double save stopping Joe Rowley’s shot down low and then the follow up from Haughton.
Buxton best chances off the half came in quick succession with Osborne linking up well with the midfield to test the Fylde keeper and Shaun Brisley looping header going over the bar.
Substitute Joe Rowley on the counter attack unselfishly squared the ball to Luke Charman who fired his shot high over the bar.
Brad Jackson had the last chance of the game cutting in and getting a shot at goal.
The Bucks are next in action against Hereford at home on Saturday.
