In a highly anticipated A6 derby clash at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium, Buxton FC showcased their resilience and attacking prowess as they secured a resounding 4-1 victory over Matlock Town to advance to the final of the Derbyshire Senior Cup.
The match began with a cagey opening, with both teams testing each other's defenses in the early stages. Matlock's Alex Duhameau capitalized on a defensive lapse to put the visitors ahead in the 16th minute, slamming home low cross past the Buxton goalkeeper.
However, the game took a dramatic turn just three minutes later when Matlock's Adam Yates was shown a red card for handling the ball on the line after Max Brogans shot, resulting in a penalty for Buxton. Despite the opportunity to equalize, Jak McCourt's spot-kick went wide, much to the frustration of the home crowd.
The Bucks continued to put pressure on forcing Matlock to play a very deep line.
Jake Wright headed narrowly over from AdamLivingstones cross as they looked to find the equaliser.
And Wright had the first chance in the second half missing from 6 yards out firing it over the goal. He then minutes later trickled a shot against the post before Saul Deeney claimed the ball.
Wrights persistence paid off in the 65th minute when Wright rose above the Matlock defense to meet a perfectly floated cross by Jak McCourt and nod the ball into the back of the net.
With the momentum firmly on their side, Buxton seized control of the match, overwhelming their opponents with relentless attacks. Wright added another goal to his tally in quick succession. An almost identical goal to his first Buxton overloaded the box where Wright headed in to give The Bucks the lead.
It was 3 goals in 6 minutes for the home side with Wright attempting to dunk the keeper and Eoin McKeown diving his header into the back of an empty net.
Buxton's dominance was further highlighted as they added a fourth goal, with Dylan Mottley-Henry also getting on the scoresheet. New signing Ben Andreucci crossing the ball across which evaded several players before finding Mottley-Henry who grabbed his first goal for the club.
The victory holds special significance for Buxton, who are now looking to win the Derbyshire Senior Cup for the second year in a row.
