Buxton are taking a break from league action as they head to the SMH Group Stadium in Chesterfield to play Alfreton in the Derbyshire Senior Challenge Cup final.
The Bucks
The Bucks head into this game on the back of a convincing 3-0 win away at Scarborough over the weekend.
The result kept their playoff hopes alive, with goals from Kieran Burton, Cian Coleman and Johnny Johnston.
Following the win manager John McGrath said:
"We had loads of energy, wearing them down.
"Our substitutes all made an impact. Three well-worked goals and a second half that belonged to the Bucks.
“Now we've got to keep standards high for the rest of the season. There's still a long way to go.
“It's our cup final on Tuesday then back to the pressures of the league, home and away."
The Bucks are going for their third DSC trophy in a row after winning the previous two years.
Opposition
Alfreton play their games at the Impact Arena which has a capacity of 3600 with 1500 of that seated.
Billy Heath has won this competition before with The Reds and beat Buxton on the way to winning it in the 2018/19 season. As manager of Alfreton his side won 2-1 in the final against Mickleover at Pride Park.
They have won this tournament 10 times and first won it in 1960/61.
Last season they finished 5th in the National League North and lost in the playoff Quarter Final to Boston United on penalties.
They were formed in 1959 following a merger and joined the Central Alliance League.
On route to this final Alfreton hasn’t conceded a goal and beat Mickleover 2-0 in the semi final game.
In their most recent game they beat Peterborough Sports 2-0 with Lewis Salmon scoring both goals for the home side.
One to watch
Lewis Salmon is the clubs top goalscorer this season with 12 goals in the national League North.
The 23 year is in his second spell at the club after originally being there on loan.
Salmon is a forward that was previously at Altrincham and Nottingham Forest.
Last Time Out
It was a 3-2 victory for Buxton on Boxing Day with all five goals coming in the first half.
Salmon opened the scoring for Alfreton, but goals from Burton and Tommy Elliott turned the game in the hosts’ favour. Former Buck Max Hunt drew Alfreton level, before Ben Sault struck in first-half stoppage time with what proved to be the decisive goal, securing all three points for Buxton.
