Late Drama Ensues as Buxton and Southport Share Points in 2-2 draw

Ben Andreucci scored twice on return from injury but with a last minute goal both sides had to settle for a point each.

After a slow start to the game, Max Hunt headed just over the bar following an Adam Livingstone cross.

Southport had a chance to open the scoring in the 12th minute after Marcus Carver laid the ball to Danny Lloyd, but Joe Young was quick off his line to put the forward off as he fired over.

The Bucks managed to take the lead in the 20th minute through the returning Andreucci . Livingstone's cross was spilled by Tony McMillan in Southport's goal, and the ball came to Andreucci who fired in for the away side.

Southport almost responded instantly, hitting the bar with a dipping volley from Lloyd and forcing Buxton's defense to clear their lines.

Buxton were forced into an early change with Connor Brown coming off with an injury and being replaced by Josh Granite.

A back pass from Granite didn’t have the power he expected as Richie Bennett ran through and got a shot off but was met by the hands of Young who made himself big.

Southport equalized from the spot in the 37th minute after Granite was adjudged to have handled the ball. The referee pointed to the spot and Lloyd stepped up and put it away for the equalizer as they headed into the break.

Buxton came out strong in the second half and regained the lead after only 2 minutes. Curtis Weston found Andreucci in the wide areas of the box and he fired it in for his second of the game to make it 2-1.

Southport then, for the rest of the game, had a lot of the attacking chances with the Bucks' defense being forced into some big challenges.

Ben Hockenhall came close with a headed effort from one of 8 corners that the hosts had in the second half.

Carver in the 81st minute made Young tip over an outside the foot shot that was heading towards the top of the goal.

Buxton, on the counter following the corner, broke with speed with Connor Kirby on the left-hand side finding Wright who searched for the far corner that went low and across out for a goal kick.

The final stages of the game made for an entertaining ending. Southport found the equalizer just into added time with Lloyd sending in a free kick. It came to Bennett and he was able to score from close range.

Both Luke Burgess and Carver were sent off into added time as Southport ended the game with 9 men. Burgess for a bad challenge on Tommy Elliott and Carver for an off-the-ball incident. But it was too late as both sides had to share the points in a 2-2 draw.
