Midweek football preview


The beginning of the season continues to be a busy period, as Tuesday night plays host to a variety of fixtures.


On the back of a 4-1 humbling by Leeds United, Frank Lampard's Derby switch their focus to the Carabao Cup.


The Rams travel to League Two's Oldham Athletic in the first round, hoping to launch a more successful EFL Cup campaign than the previous which saw them exit at the second round at the hands of Barnsley.


Chesterfield will be searching for a fourth win from four in the National League, paying a visit to Ian Evatt's Barrow following a 1-0 victory over Braintree Town on the weekend.


In the National League, meanwhile, Alfreton hope to build on their first win of the season with a strong performance against Curzon Ashton at the Impact Arena.


Billy Heath's Reds beat York 2-1 on Saturday thanks to goals from Tom Denton and Curtis Bateson, and they will be confident of taking more points this evening.


After their success in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round, Derbyshire's tier nine sides also return to league action.


In the NCEL Premier Division, Staveley will be looking to build on their opening day draw with Barton Town when they visit Yorkshire Amateur.


The first Derbyshire derby of the season takes place in the Midland Football League Premier Division, with Ilkeston Town hosting Long Eaton United in what can be expected to be a hotly-contested fixture.


South Normanton complete the Tuesday night line-up with their visit to Loughborough University.
