John Pemberton has been appointed as the new academy manager at Chesterfield Football Club.
The 53-year-old former Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and Leeds United defender brings a wealth of experience to the Proact Stadium, having spent two successful years as Sheffield United’s academy manager. In his short spell with the Blades, he guided the United youth team to the 2011 FA Youth Cup final, losing out to Manchester United over two legs.
He spent 13 years at Nottingham Forest in the backroom team and also was assistant to Steve Cotterill at Bristol City during their League One and Football League Trophy-winning campaign in 2014/15.
Commenting on his new role, Pemberton said: "My job is to put some players in the first team and it’s something I’m really looking forward to.
"I know the club well and when I was asked if I was interested in the position, it was something that really appealed to me."
Director & company secretary Ashley Carson said: "John has an excellent pedigree and came out on top after a number of high-calibre applicants were interviewed.
"We are delighted to welcome him to the club to take on this highly important role."
Pemberton will take charge of the academy next Monday.
