Chesterfield face Torquay United in an attempt to get their season back on track. The Spireites are still yet to find a win, despite having already played 10 games.
The Gulls look to break into the play-offs whilst John Sheridan's team look to reduce the gap to safety.
The Opposition
Torquay dropped out of the National League in the 2017/18 season. Current Gulls’ boss Gary Johnson took over at Plainmoor after Gary Owers had a poor start last season.
He managed to steer Torquay to the top of the table and won the league outright, making their stay in the National League South a short one.
The visiting side have got off to a fairly impressive start, sitting in 8th place currently. They have managed four wins, three draws and three losses. Only one of their victories has been on the road.
Previous Meetings
Chesterfield have faced Torquay many times in the Football League but this will be their first meeting in the National League. The last time the two teams faced each other was in February 2014.
The Spireites won 3-1 with goals from Eoin Doyle and a Jay O’Shea double. One memorable trip down at Plainmoor was on Friday 29th April, the day of the Royal Wedding. The Spireites travelled in big numbers but the game that saw Guy Branston feature for the Gulls ended in a goalless draw.
One To Watch
Jamie Reid - The Torquay-born striker started off his career down the road at Exeter City. He graduated from their youth system and signed for them in 2012.
During his time with the Grecians, the 25-year-old had three loan spells at Torquay before signing for them in 2017. Reid has found the back of the net seven times this season, making himself top scorer, not only for Torquay United but for the National League as well.
Team News
Tom Denton looks set to return to the squad after recovering from a knee injury. However the Spireites are still without left-back David Buchanan and striker Anthony Spyrou.
The Spireites have also been linked with Oldham Athletic winger and Curacao international, Gevaro Nepomuceno. The loan deal looks like it won't be completed before this Saturday as he is still on international duty
