PREVIEW: Spirietes look to continue winning run against play-off chasers Eastleigh

Chesterfield travel to the Silverlake Stadium to take on Eastleigh in the National League.

The Opposition

Ben Strevens’ side will look to avoid three consecutive defeats after losing on the road at King’s Lynn Town and Stockport County. The Spitfires have only won one in their last six games- a home game against Halifax Town. However they got draws against high-flyers Hartlepool and Wrexham.

One-To-Watch

Tyrone Barnett- The experienced forward has enjoyed a long career and has represented seventeen different clubs. Barnett started off in non-league with Rushall Olympic after being released from West Bromwich Albion as a youngster. In 2010 he earned a move to the Football League where he joined Macclesfield Town and linked up with one of his former Hednesford teammates.

Whilst at Crawley Town Barnett signed on an emergency loan for Peterborough United with a £1.1M deal agreed for the Summer and highly impressed on his debut. The forward went on to represent a number of lower league clubs before dropping back into non-league to sign for Eastleigh in August 2019. Last season he was Spitfires’ top scorer with 12 goals in 39 and this season he is top scorer on 9.

Previous Meetings

In the reverse fixture the Spirietes came out on top, with Akwasi Asante scoring late on.

Chesterfield’s last visit to the Silverlake Stadium became memorable for Shwan Jalal’s heroics in goal. The ‘keeper made some excellent saves and Chesterfield claimed a 2-0 win, with Tom Denton and Jonathan Smith getting their names on the scoresheet.

Team News

James Rowe told the press that Laurence Maguire is ‘touch and go’ however he kept his cards close to his chest on the return of Gavin Gunning and Jak McCourt.

Rowe’s Thoughts

“Let’s get to where we want to in the game. Let’s influence the way we want to and if we can reach the levels that we did in the home game against them here, I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
