PREVIEW: The Reds welcome the Heed to the Impact Arena

Alfreton Town host Gateshead on Tuesday night and will hope to find a third successive home win.

It is the first game since yesterday's announcement of former Nuneaton Borough chairman and Ilkeston Town Chief Operating Officer, Nick Hawkins joining as Sporting Director.

The Opposition

Gateshead currently occupy seventh place in the National League North. Their 1-0 win at Curzon Ashton on Saturday means they are two points ahead of eighth place Spennymoor Town, with two games in hand.

The Heed finished 17th in the National League last season but were demoted following financial irregularities.

One To Watch

Jordan Preston- The Yorkshire-born forward re-joined Gateshead last summer after spending the 2018/19 season at Halifax Town. He previously played as a winger for the club, scoring five goals.

The former Blackburn Rovers U21 striker’s first taste of National League action came in 2016, when he signed for Guiseley from Scottish side Ayr United.

Despite failing to find the net against Curzon Ashton on Saturday, Preston scored in the home wins against Leamington and Chester.

Team News

The Reds announced yesterday the signing of Shaun Tuton from fellow National League North side, Boston United.

Tuton, who is 28-years-old, ended last season on loan at Chorley before moving to the Pilgrims and scoring twice in 18 appearances.

On the signing, manager Billy Heath said: "He joins us aiming to get back scoring again, I worked with him at Halifax and he’s a great lad to have in the dressing room with his character and attitude."

Previous Meetings

Alfreton suffered a 3-1 defeat at the Gateshead International Stadium when the two sides met earlier in the season. Former Chesterfield loanee Joshua Kayode put the hosts ahead after nine minutes, before Dale Whitham equalised for the Reds just before the hour.

Jordan Preston’s 78th minute strike restored Gatesheads’ lead, prior to Kayode securing the three points in injury time.
