TROJANS END WINLESS RUN WITH DERBY DAY VICTORY!

Eight miles and eight places separated Staveley Miners Welfare from Dronfield Town as Derby Day provided the perfect setting for the hosts to put an end to three games without a win.

The visitors to the Elastic FM Community stadium were Chris Millington's side who had lost just one in their last four games.

Town made two changes to the starting 11, Regan Rooke replaced Owen Lester, who fell to the bench and Callum Mawbey was named in place of the suspended Michael Fereday.

The Trojans made six changes to their line-up with Addison Bliss, Clark Greaves, Jordan Claxton, Tim Whittaker, Sam Hooper and Jacob Pearce being recalled to the starting line-up.

The hosts started the better of the two sides with both Max Rhodes and Zander Duhameau finding space to shoot, Lewis Naylor equal to both efforts to keep the scores level.

The deadlock was broken on the stroke of half-time, Corey Glaves finding space to head home from a corner to give the hosts the lead heading into the break.

Both sides were forced into changes, Jacob Pearce and Sam Terry were forced off with injuries for their respective sides, Marley Grant and Callum Riley entered the game in their place.

As the second half got underway, it was the visitors who changed their formation and with it their success at creating chances.

Sam Bebbington being pushed forward into an attacking role helped inject energy and pace that were lacking throughout the first half, but they couldn't capitalise on their control of the game.

The Trojans sat back and welcomed the pressure but kept hitting Dronfield on the counter attack and eventually this would pay off.

Confusion within the Town defence forced Naylor into action again, first saving from Sam Kay before Rhodes ran in to score his first of the season.

With the second goal came a shift in momentum as Staveley went from strength to strength and from here only one side looked liked winning.

Sam Hooper chased a ball down the right hand side and after beating Knight with ease played the ball across the face of goal to be slotted home by Luke Mitchell.

Max Rhodes will be disappointed to have not had a hat-trick in the game but he did get one step closer when Staveley's top goalscorer Marley Grant played the ball across the face of goal, Rhodes lost his man at the back post to make it 4-0.

The three points lifts Staveley up to 10th in NCEL Division One, despite defeat, Dronfield remain in 6th, goal difference all that leaves them outside of the play-offs.

Up next for the Trojans is a trip to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic whilst Town host Selby Town on Saturday, both 3pm kick-offs.
