Farsley stay up on final day after beating Buxton

Farsley Celtic survived on the final day of the season after defeating Buxton FC 2-0.

It didn’t take long for Farsley to go ahead after only 12 minutes with Tom Allan smashing in a volley following Clayton Donaldson's cross into the box.

Ryan Watson then had an effort on the edge of the box blocked, with The Bucks' defense pushed back under pressure.

Eoin McKeown for the visitors looked into the box to find the incoming Jake Wright, but his ball didn't quite make it as the keeper gathered it into his hands.

In the next ten minutes, both Michael Coulson and Ben Atkinson had ambitious efforts on the edge of the area, going just wide of the mark.

Wright had a penalty shout late on in the half, but the referee waved it away, with The Bucks going in behind 1-0 at the break.

The hosts came out quickly in the second half and soon added the second goal in the 49th minute. A corner ball came to Isaac Assesno, and with a backheel flick, the ball just about went over the line for 2-0.

Coulson then whipped in a low cross that had too much power, as Lewis Turner couldn’t control it, and it went wide of the goal.

Player/Manager Clayton Donaldson then hit the post before going down in the box, but he was adjudged to have dived, and the referee waved it away.

Another penalty shout for Jake Wright was turned away late on, with Allan taking the striker out in the box, but yet again nothing was given.

With the game approaching the end, Farsley had one last chance through Donaldson, going just wide.

At full time, fans ran onto the pitch with confirmation after the 2-0 win that Farsley would be safe for another year.
