NEWS: Chesterfield FC sack John Sheridan

John Sheridan has left his role as Chesterfield manager after his contract was terminated today.

The news comes after the 3-0 defeat to Solihull Moors yesterday which leaves the Spireites 22nd in the National League, five points adrift from safety.

Assistant manager Glynn Snodin and goalkeeping coach Mark Crossley have also left the Proact Stadium.

Former Chesterfield academy manager, John Pemberton, will take temporary charge of the side.

Pemberton was also named as caretaker manager last January, following the dismissal of Martin Allen. He got three draws from three games, including the remarkable comeback against Ebbsfleet United.

Company secretary Ashley Carson said: "The decision was taken after full discussion last night with majority shareholder Dave Allen and also with Mike Goodwin, chairman of the Community Trust, who is heading up the potential takeover of the club.

"Whilst I think we all knew the time was right to make this change, it is important that I work very closely with Mike Goodwin, as ultimately we look forward to a change of ownership very soon.

"There will be a joint plan going forward so that any decisions taken regarding the appointment of a new manager will be made in full agreement with the Community Trust."

The club have announced that there will be a statement made after the weekend regarding the plans to appoint a new manager.
